Hit the Smart Shot

Think better around the course. Golf is an obstacle course. Hit the shot you know that would turn out acceptable 7 out of 10 times. If you can’t pull off a shot 7 times out of 10 then don’t hit it. There are shots in every round where you should be aiming to the generous part of the green or even purposefully missing the green because trouble lurks too close to the pin. You’ll need a short game to help you get through the day but at least you won’t be taking penalty strokes because you bit off more than you could chew. You won’t know it but at the end of the tournament when you look up at the scoreboard to compare how well you did to the rest of the field you will have beaten many, if not all, because you simply thought your way around the course better than everyone else. Pride yourself on strategic thinking.
