One of my favorite ways to practice putting is to use two pencils and a 6 – 8 foot piece of string to create a target line. Find a putt with no left or right break and tie the string to the top of each pencil. Stick the first pencil in the ground 2 – 3 inches directly behind the cup in relation to where you will be putting from. Stretch the string tight, directly over the center of the cup and stick the second pencil in the ground. When you’ve done it correctly, your string will be setting 4 – 5 inches above the ground and give you a great visual of your target line. Place a ball directly beneath the string and start stroking putts. With the visual aid of the string you will instantly become more aware of several keys to great putting. Where your body is aligned in relation to the target line becomes more apparent, where your eyes are in relation to the ball is revealed and how your putter moves throughout the stroke becomes very obvious. |
